2013 Baltic Cruise
Day 15 - 21st May 2013
Arrived to a very wet Hamburg –
it rained all day – so I was going nowhere – lingered around my hotel most of the day early flight to Paris
the following morning.
Days 16 to 22 – 22nd to 28th May 2013
Short flight from Hamburg to
Paris and the 2 hour trip on the TGV and spent a wonderful week exploring the
countryside.
Thanks to Chris & Di for a
great week.
Did a day trip to Rochefort and
to Ile de Re
Rochefort
Went on a tour of the Frigate
Hermoine and La Corderie Royale.
The remarkable Royal Rope works,
built in 1666, and long enough to accommodate lengths of rope needed to rig
tall ships, now host maritime themed exhibitions, displays of rope making
skills. In the nearby dockyard a dedicated team is replicating the Hermoine,
the frigate which sailed to America in 1780 to help fight in the American War
of Independence.
Ile de Re
The Ile de Re is an island close
to La Rochelle – beautiful white washed villages – a profusion of hollyhocks
and near endless beaches.
We had lunch in Saint Martin – de
– Re – which is the main town on the island for the past 400 years.
Loads of restaurants, boutiques,
cafes, with numerous yachts and boats in the harbour.
Next my day in Paris
